As well as being an incredible form of exercise in its own right, Pilates is very effective in helping support other physical activities, such as running. No matter the reason for an individual to run - whether for leisure or social or as part of another sport such as football or rugby - Pilates really complements the mechanics of running.
Pilates has three main benefits for regular runners: rejuvenation (helping in recovery from running, balancing and stretching the body, aiding with injury recovery), maintenance (keeping the body free from injury a fit state for good performance) and performance enhancement (using Pilates to improve running techniques and habits, creating movement strategies for more efficient movement). Together, they create a really powerful tool to complement any runners' lifestyle.
